If you are mom to a boy, then you for sure can understand my frustration with the selection of boy pants on the market. You get to choose between sweats, cargo pants, jeans or shorts, all in a solid color–mostly navy, grey, black, and occasionally a pair of shorts with a print on it (an anchor or plaid, something of that sort).
Head on over to the girls’ section, however, and you can find printed pants galore! It is a sea of polka dots, hearts, animals, bright colors, and much more.
When my son started crawling, his pants would all slide down, bunch around his ankles or end up halfway down his foot. So I started looking for a legging type of pant for him to wear and found nothing. I ended up resorting to putting him in shorts and luckily he runs hot, so for the most part it was an okay solution.
Now he is walking, and with that comes a lot of small tumbles. I once again went on the hunt for pants that would stay put. We own a few pairs of leggings from the girls’ section that we wear proudly! One pair features different colored dogs, while another says “Love”–100% gender neutral, if you ask me. It also doesn’t hurt that diaper changes are easier in leggings. They are perfect for playing in because they do not slide down, they keep his legs warm on foggy, windy days in the city, and they are so cute!
The problem I run into is that girls’ leggings are cut very narrow and my son has some muscular legs, so we have to size up. Does he know he is wearing girls’ leggings? No! He is a 1-year-old, and I have to say I believe that leggings are perfect for babies and toddlers no matter what gender they are. So, fellow boy moms, start browsing in the girls’ section; you never know what you might find.
